Happy International Women’s Day!

At A Bit Hippy, we are a small but mighty team working hard to make a difference in skincare. As a predominantly female tribe, International Women’s Day is an important time for us. To reflect on history and the achievements of past women who fought to gain greater equality but also recognizing that there are still people struggling to this day for an equal voice. What we really love about International Women’s Day in the office is that we can dedicate time to celebrate the amazing women in our lives for all they do; big, small, silently, or proudly.

We couldn’t have got to where we are today without the women who drove, inspired, nurtured, stressed, sweated and strategised to develop and maintain our brand. Whether they worked directly on the brand or behind the scenes supporting and encouraging each of us.

I’m proud to say that we have a team who all value each other and enjoy a safe workspace where equality is expected, nurtured and enjoyed. We all need each other, and we need those inspirational women who inspire us along the way – no one gender exists without the others. We strongly believe that all genders are a big part of International Women’s Day and that equality cannot be met without everyone on board; their respect, encouragement, and desire to ensure their mothers, wives, partners, daughters and co-workers are treated equality, with respect and always given the opportunity to have a voice and strive for what they wish to achieve.

That is why we want to introduce you to our entire team, including the men, in celebration of the people who influence our brand. Our team would not be the same without all of these people.

As our way of helping you show the special women in your life, that you recognize their efforts and contribution, we’re hosting a 20% off sitewide sale. So that you can treat her to the gift of non-toxic, skincare without irritation (even if that woman is yourself).

Q&A with our team including some favorite products from our inspirational women

Sophie – Customer Service Guru

What could we possibly do without Sophie, isn’t she just the sweetest thing to roam this earth? Well, not just that but she’s the gal answering all your calls, emails and questions on social media… a switched-on woman with a can-do, forever positive attitude. Sophie makes you feel the sunshine on even the gloomiest of days.

1. Which ABH product can you simply not do without? why?

I keep my Aroma Balm in close proximity most of the time - in my bag, by my bed or sitting on my desk. Not only is it portable, but the scent is intoxicating. The essential oils make me smell heavenly and it instantly makes me feel relaxed. Hot tip: apply it on your temples, neck and behind the ears before you head to bed and drift off into a sweet-smelling slumber.

2. What makes your day at work better if you’re under the pump?

There is nothing I appreciate more than getting a kind compliment from our sweet Hippies. It always brightens my day to hear that our products make a difference in their lives and help to make them (and their skin) feel wonderful.

3. What do you love about your job?

I’m lucky to firstly work with kind, beautiful people who love to share a laugh and support each other. As well, I really believe in the products we provide, which makes my job easier!

4. If you could tell your younger self one thing to prepare them for work-life what would it be?

I would tell my teenage self to always stay curious. Not only when it comes to work, but life in general. If you’re curious, you are always willing and wanting to learn more, get to know people and you have the ability to make each day different just as exciting as the last.

5. What makes you feel proud to be a woman?

I’m proud to be a strong woman and am grateful to be alive at a time when so much change is coming about in the world. The feminist movement and breaking down of the patriarchy are aspects of society I am deeply passionate about, so it is empowering to see people of all genders advocating for these changes. We still have a long way to go, though a collective number of small steps lead to greater changes after all!
International Women’s Day remembers those who have fought for us and celebrates the privileged lives some of us now lead because of them. It is also a stark reminder that there are women all around the world who are still facing internal or external struggles and cannot join the gender equality fight physically. For that reason, I feel IWD is an important reminder of all the things women do for others, themselves, and society. We give life to the world (in more ways than one), we are powerful, creative, and intelligent, we embrace our emotions, we work hard, we are united, but we have suffered and still do.

Achieving small wins that lead to positive and worthwhile outcomes and, of course, being around the awesome ABH Team!

Tamanu Oil is part of my morning routine. I love how it makes my skin look & feel and I love its earthy smell.

2. What makes your day at work better if you’re under the pump?

1. Which ABH product can you simply not do without? why?

The Mist Toner is my favourite product! I use it in the morning before my skincare routine and makeup, and then during the day when I feel my skin needs a little pick me up. I have one in my beach bag as well so I can use it to refresh my face when I’m out enjoying the sun.

2. What makes your day at work better if you’re under the pump?

When I’m extra busy, I like to take at least 5 minutes to do something that takes me out of ‘hustle’ mode. Sometimes is just breathing or putting on a quick meditation or a song I like. If my little pup Bruno is in the office I get up and take a walk outside with him to get some fresh air. I always feel better after and I can get back to my to do list with more energy.

3. What do you love about your job?

Sounds cliché, but I love that every day is different. We’re a small team so we get to wear many hats and that means that I’m constantly learning and working on different things, so I rarely get bored. And also, that I get to bring Bruno to work.

4. If you could tell your younger self one thing to prepare them for work-life what would it be?

I’d tell her that she’s enough no matter what. That her ‘strong personality’ is what will make her succeed at everything she puts her mind to. And not to let fear guide her decisions.

Emma – Brand Marketing Guru

Emma (me), I have been here the shortest amount of time of all the team, but working in marketing for about 12 years and always had a fascination with skincare from growing up with terrible teen-skin. I look after the brand and all it’s touchpoints from product tweaks and development with the owner, to editing videos (with Kara’s help) and posting social media…. yes, I’m writing all the blog posts too – so feel free slide into my DMs with any topics you’re interested in finding out more about!

1. Which ABH product can you simply not do without? why?

Restoring night cream, it’s just so amazingly thick and nourishing. My skin feels so soft and fresh when I wake up in the morning… plus I’m honestly just shocked at how long it lasts! Oh and right now it comes with a free ceramic oil burner, so it's hard to go past as a gift (even if it's a gift to yourself!)

2. What makes your day at work better if you’re under the pump?

When Kara visits my desk… we always end up talking about the most random things that spark an idea for our secret project you’ll be hearing about later this year…

3. What do you love about your job?

From a career perspective, I get to work on so many different areas of one brand it’s really exciting to see everything through from strategy to implementation then final results and key learnings to go round at start the process all again for another project. But, really, it’s the people… everyone contributes beyond the area of just their job and everyone listens to each other’s ideas professionally and personally… and this makes lunchtime and team events fun!

4. If you could tell your younger self one thing to prepare them for work-life what would it be?

Everything happens for a reason. Trust your intuition, follow your gut, speak your true voice and most importantly find your work-tribe.
