Soap

Heya Hippy!

Some of us here at Hippy HQ recently went on a road trip to visit the ancient wise woman who makes our Hemp Seed Oil and Green Clay Body Bar, it was absolutely amazing as it’s still a very traditional process, so we thought you hippies might be as interested in it as we are!

Making soap is hard work!

It’s not until you see soap being made right in front of you that you fully comprehend how much effort and time goes into it. It is 100% handmade and after it is cut into individual soaps, it has to be left out of the light and heat and watched over by the ancient wise woman- this is called curing. After three months the soap is ready to be sent out to all you hippies!  So next time you rub that beautiful body with our soap, be mindful just how ‘vintage’ your gorgeous soap bar is.

Sweat is good:

Have you noticed your body bar sometimes gets little wet droplets and it looks a bit sweaty or the box looks a bit wet around the edges?

We asked our soap guru why this happens. Turns out, when soap is made, glycerin is naturally produced as a by-product. Glycerin has high amounts of fat and combined with the other oils, it is what leaves your skin feeling silky and nourished. Glycerin is also a humectant, (this means it attracts water from the air) so if it’s been raining or is a bit humid, your soap gets little droplets on it because the glycerin is attracting more water to it. Amazing huh!? So, it turns out that a ‘sweating’ soap bar is an indication of a great quality soap. Next time you see one, get your hands on it.

A bit more about our Hemp Seed Oil and Green Clay Body Bar

It’s full of skin loving ingredients. We use a mix of olive, coconut, sunflower oil and hemp seed oils which hydrate your skin leaving it soft and smooth.  Hemp seed oil is an essential fatty acid that has a similar structure to the natural fats in your skin. It is great for treating dehydration and dry skin but it won’t clog your pores! Hemp seed oil is also good for treating conditions like psoriasis, acne, eczema and dermatitis.

Green clay is a great detoxifier as it contains many minerals, including dolomite, manganese, silica, magnesium, zinc and calcium.  This type of clay is also exfoliating and clarifying – it is really absorbent and attracts impurities helping to remove them from your skin.

We’ve also put a blend of essential oils which leave you smelling delicious!
