If you've got a sensitive scalp, you'll know claims like that don't get taken lightly. You've probably been burned (sometimes literally, itchy scalp wise) by a bottle that promised the same thing and did the opposite.
So here's the honest answer to "how can you say that?" Our Sensitive Scalp range, Sensitive Shampoo, Sensitive Conditioner and Intense Repair Hair Mask, is dermatologically tested. Not just labelled that way. Actually tested. By an independent lab. On real people.
What does "dermatologically tested" actually mean?
It's a phrase that gets thrown around a lot in the cosmetics and skin care world, so it's worth unpacking properly. Dermatological testing assesses a product's potential to cause irritation on the skin and/or scalp. It's carried out by an independent lab, on a decent sized group of study participants, under proper clinical conditions. Not a vibe check, an actual test.
Worth knowing too: "dermatologically tested" doesn't automatically mean a product is suitable for sensitive skin. Testing just means testing happened. More often than not, if a product comes back highly irritating, brands will quietly pull it from the range, but you can't always assume that's what's gone on behind the scenes. Which is exactly why we're not just telling you we passed. We're showing you.
So, what were the results?
Our Sensitive Shampoo, Sensitive Conditioner and Hair Mask were each assessed by an independent lab for their potential to cause irritation on the skin and scalp.
Across the trio, 54 participants took part. The result: not one of them experienced erythema (that's the technical term for abnormal redness caused by irritation) or any other irritant response, to any of the products tested.
Zero irritation, across the board. That's the kind of result that lets us stand behind words like "gentle" and "irritation-free" without crossing our fingers behind our backs.
Why haven't we tested the whole range?
Fair question. The honest answer is that dermatological testing is expensive, and it takes time to do properly. We're not going to slap "derm-tested" on a bottle that hasn't earned it just to tick a marketing box. Instead, we're working through the range methodically, testing more products as and when we can, and only making the claim where we've genuinely got the results to back it up.
Big claims, proper receipts
